2009 Blog Project

300 Designs: Variations & Explorations

I am excited to be focusing this blog in 2009 on a personal project, 300 Designs: Variations & Explorations.
As the facilitator of all things in the Early studio and
a few years of mass producing jewelry from my 'Collections' I have taxed my hands and brain. I need a new avenue to produce work. Not only will 300 jewelry designs be a personal goal and challenge, it allows me to post pieces which push my current designs. There are no guidelines, yet natural parameters will evolve in this process. Here's to 300 Designs in 2009, Cheers! -Kylie

Happy Holidays and a cheerful New Year.  We will be out of the studio from 12/23/08 - 01/02/09. The picture above is of my father, aunts, and uncle with their classmates posing with a scary looking Santa at their school 'Grandview'.  Both my father and mother went to one room schoolhouses 'til they attended high school in Kansas during the early 60's.  'Grandview' school was about a mile from the farm where I grew up, it's still standing but is getting pretty run down.  'Little House on the Prairie' gives me my main nostalgic visuals of attending a one room school, but having one right down the road made it more realistic.  When I would go to 'Grandview' as a kid my imagination would always go wild.  It was a dusty cold smelling space with chipped paint, books, desks full of carved initials, and hanging maps. I can only imagine it was a great place to spend your school days.  It was simpler then..I guess.  I just realized that in this picture all the boys are on the right, girls on the left-ha.

Shoe designer Rae Jones is a colleague of a friend in London. Her subtle color combo's mixed with nostalgic designs are to die for.

Early Jewelry would like to announce that we can help reconstruct your personal vintage piece into a one of a kind item just for you. Something may be sitting in your jewelry box that you would love to rock but just don't have the time or supplies to make your new favorite. Scavenging can lead to fabulous finds at antique malls, thrift stores, estate sales, or pieces passed down from your family. Let us reinvent those finds into unique one of a kind jewelry just for you. Special, affordable, unique.

Send us your: Cuff links, clip on earrings, coins, spoons, broaches, or email me with an image of a piece you would be interested in reconstructing.

Will start posting images of possibilities which could inspire. Cost depends on materials used, time, & other specifics of a design.

What we've been listening to, NOV.08

Robert Krulwich & Jad Aburad of NPR's "Radio Lab"

In the studio we have finished all "This American Life" podcasts and have transitioned to "Radio Lab."~Thanks Kim.  Here is a Washington Post article about "Radio Lab."

Also listening to: Suzannah Johannes, Dr. Dog, AC/DC (when Killian's here), KCUR, & an Australian radio program ByDesign.

What we've been watching, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."  Many of my friends are in LOVE with the the comedic hilarity of Charlie Day, plus Danny de Vito is always a hoot.  I watch it online Here.

Back from Vegas, back to reality. Honestly Vegas makes me feel a bit putrid, but while there the tradeshow is priority so it is always work*eat*sleep. Above is an image from our booth at the Pool Tradeshow which I halved with Supermaggie, a designer out of Baton Rouge. Below is Maggie's new horsie shirt which is Awesome! Thanks to everyone who helped me prepare for the show, seriously can't pull this thing off without you all.
